Speaking of Flags, some flags are going to be spoken about in a series of posts.
Flag 1- Sister Nivedita's India flag(c.1904).Thuderbolt in the centre represents Indra's Vajra.'Vande mataram' horizontal.
Too Hindu for congress secularists to accept as national flag of India.Just as 'Jana gana mana' was preferred over Vande Mataram. It was Gandhi who advised them to make flags "acceptable to all religions".

Flag- 2
The Indian National Congress, India's largest political party before independence, adopted a white, green and saffron flag as its unofficial flag in 1921. "The saffron originally stood for Hinduism, green for Islam, and white stood for other minority religions(we could say christians)".
However,Muslim organisations scorned Gandhi's interpretations saying they wouldnt adopt any 'Hindu' symbol. That is why the congress reinterpreted the meaning of the flag. Now saffron has come to mean 'sacrifice' etc..,.
It is also believed that white also formed a buffer of peace between the two communities, as in the flag of Ireland. In 1931, the Congress party adopted another flag with the colours saffron, white and green, and featuring the Charkha ( spinning wheel) in the centre, as their official flag. This flag purportedly had no religious symbolism associated with it.
Before accepting this original flag, one more flag was discussed by Gandhi with Pingali(proposed by Pingali Ji), which had a spinning wheel in the centre with Green and Red clours(the colour of the flag of Samajvadi Party) in background.

Flag- 3
We discussed some Indian flags and our Tricolour, in my previous posts. We got to know what exactly those three colours mean. And it was intentional by Congress to change its actual meaning and euphemise it all.
Lets discuss some more flags(not necessarily talking about the nation India but the ideology of Bharat):
'Jan sangh flag was all saffron,no green. However, its offspring, BJP, deliberately introduced Green'. We all know why was that needed, obviously to look Secular.
Haven't they been trying??

Epilogue/flag 14-
Another one...
Varaha, Churi, Surya and Chandra were symbols on the flags of Chalukyas. Ladkhan temple(c.700 AD)(image). Chalukyas represented a standard of royal hood in karnantaka and Vijayanagaras tried to adhere to those standards in almost all respects.
Varaha in Chalukya, Hoysala and Vijayanagara symbols represented an avatara of Lord Vishnu.
