Offerings to ancestors
The spirit consumes only spiritual energy of the material food. Whereas, Manushya needs both the spiritual and material sustenance. Prior to commencing a meal, practitioners of the Brahmin religion will always consume six grains of rice with ghee as offerings to their spiritual sheaths beyond the material body before commencing to feed their physical being. According to my Guru (Chinthamani Sadhana) Okada Mokichi, the spiritual energy of a single grain of rice is enough to sustain a spirit for a long time.
But it is important to make regular and copious ritual offerings to ancestors, preferably in a place dedicated to this and a time and day dedicated to this, as the spirits of your ancestors can share the surplus with orphaned spirits in the spirit world and so earn great merit. Orphaned spirits, otherwise, have to steal sustenance from others. This is extremely painful in the spiritual world where all is known and reduces their position in the after life by adding to their mortal sins.
Once the spiritual energy is consumed, the offering has no further spiritual aura and becomes unattractive to those beings who are spiritually awakened and capable of perceiving auras
Denizens of the Animal World are more in touch with the spiritual world as their vision is not blocked by the conceptual thinking, doubts, confusions and symbolism and spoken lies of Man.
This is in response to friend Shonan Talpade's query:
“A small bit of trivia to change the topics on my Mind.
What is so special in the cow ?
-----------------------
In our Hindu post mortem ceremonies
( we call them Shradd )
We offer Balls of mashed boiled rice ..,mixed with with Black sesamum seed or just plain as it is --to our recently departed family member or even to our distant ancestors...
The view is --their spirits if not yet taken rebirth or Moksha and lingering around feed on the same rice balls and their hunger is satiated and they move on.
after the ritual is over , the rice balls are allowed to flow away in water or buried -depending on where you are .
---------------
Now .
after the ritual If you give these same rice balls to a dog , a pig or a goat or a crow even ..they will consume it .
BUT a COW will never touch the same --she may be Hungry , starving, she will eat garbage , your thrown Mango and banana rotten peel..even plastic.
But She will NEVER touch ..NEVER
touch a shraddh rice ball offering.
--
But two balls of boiled rice ( plain ) in front of a cow ,
One used in a death ritual and one made normally .
The cow will Never go near the former .
--------------------------------
Call me superstitious or whatever , I may be wrong but I have personally observed and experimented on this with cows many times to form my opinion
Is there a scientific explanation to this ? If anyone has , please tell me” (Shonan Talpade)
