मनुस्मृति में जीव हिंसा का विरोध

Manu-smṛti 5.45 –

“yo ‘hiṁsakāni bhūtāni hinasty ātma-sukhecchayā / sa jīvaṁś ca mṛtaś caiva na kvacit sukham edhate ”
“योऽहिंसकानि भूतानि हिनस्त्यात्मसुखेच्छया । स जीवंश्च मृतश्चैव न क्वचित्सुखमेधते ।।“ – meaning – “A human who kills herbivorous animals (who do not eat other animals flesh but eat vegetarian foods ) for the sake of his pleasure of tongue as enjoyment , he never attains peace and happiness either while living or after death – not at any time.”

“जो मनुष्य अहिंसक जीवों को अपने जिव्हा के सुख की इच्छा से पशुओं की हत्या करता है, वह जीता हुआ और मरा हुआ भी कहीं भी सुख से समृद्ध नहीं होता ।“
(b) Manu-smṛti 5.48 –
“nā ‘kṛtvā prāṇināṁ hiṁsāṁ māṁsam utpadyate kvacit / na ca prāṇi-vadhaḥ svargyas tasmān māṁsaṁ vivarjayet //” – “नाऽकृत्वा प्राणिनां हिंसां मांसमुत्पद्यते क्वचित् । न च प्राणिवधः स्वर्ग्यस्तस्मान्मांसं विवर्ज्जयेत् ।।–
“meaning – “Meat is never produced without killing of animals. Killing of animals never facilitates in the obtainment of paradise. Hence, the (consumption of) meat is to be, completely, forsaken.” /
“प्राणियों की हिंसा किये बिना कहीं भी मांस उत्पन्न नहीं होता है । प्राणियों की हिंसा स्वर्गप्राप्ति करने में सहायक नहीं है । उस कारण से मांस को (मांसभक्षण को) पूर्णतया वर्जित करें ।“
(C) Manu-smṛti 5.51 –
“anumantā viśasitā nihantā kraya-vikrayī / saṁskārtā copaharttā ca khādakāś ceti ghātakāḥ //”
– “अनुमन्ता विशसिता निहन्ता क्रयविक्रयी । संस्कर्त्ता चोपहर्त्ता च खादकाश्चेति घातका: ।।–
“meaning – “He who permits (the slaughter of an animal), he who cuts (butchers) it up, he who kills (slaughters) it, he who buys or sells (meat), he who cooks it, he who serves it up, and he who eats it, (must all be considered as) the slayers (of the animal).” /
“पशु को मारने की अनुमति देने वाला, मारने वाला, मरे हुए जीव के शरीर के अङ्गो को टुकडे टुकडे करने वाला, उसे खरीदने वाला, बेचने वाला, पकाने वाला, परोसने वाला और खाने वाला – ये सब जीवहिंसा करने वाले हैं ।“
(D) Manu-smṛti 5.55 –
“māṁ sa bhakṣayitā ‘mutra yasya māṁsam ihā ‘dmy aham / etan māṁsasya māṁsatvaṁ pravadanti manīṣiṇaḥ //”– 
“मां स भक्षयिताऽमुत्र यस्य मांसमिहाऽद्म्यहम् । एतन्मांसस्य मांसत्वं प्रवदन्ति मनीषिण: ।।“ –
meaning – “ ‘Me he (maṁ saḥ)’ will devour in the next (world), whose flesh I eat in this (life); the wise declare this (to be) the actual meaning of the term ‘flesh’ (māṁsaḥ).” /
“इस लोक में जिस का मांस-भक्षण मैं करता हूँ (सः) अर्थात् वह परलोक में ‘मां’ अर्थात् मेरा भक्षण करेगा । यही मांस शब्द का अर्थ विद्वानों ने कहा है ।“

ध्यान देने योग्य बात यह है कि 'नस्लवाद' / 'उदारवाद' / 'संरक्षणवाद' / 'नारीगमन' / 'मिहोग्यानी' / 'एनोकॉइसाइड' / 'पीडोफिलिया' / 'मानवाधिकार' आदि जैसे पश्चिमी अवधारणाओं में कई जड़ है। यवन समाज के उत्पाद हैं ।
