NAME: Somnath (Lord of Moon, Lord that holds moon)
LOCATION: Prabhas Patan, Saurashtra, Gujarat
ORIGINALLY BUILT BY: Moon god, according to legends. Different dynasties restored over the time
BRIEF HISTORY:
Originally believed to have been made of pure gold and silver, the temple witnessed massive destructions from Arab and Afghani invaders and by the Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb during different time periods. These invasions stripped off the temple with all its wealth. Even after all these invasions and destructions, the glory of this pious place remained untouched.
In 1947, the temple was restored on the orders of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the Jyotirlinga was installed by the then president Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

Sourashtra dese visadetiramye Jyotirmayam Chandra Kalavatamsam
Bhakti Pradanaya Kripaveteernam tam Somanatham Sharanam prapadye...!!!
