NAME: Tryambakeshwar (Father of 3 worlds)
LOCATION: At the source-pond (Kusavarta Kunda) of Godavari River, Nashik, Maharashtra
ORIGINALLY BUILT BY: Gautam Muni. Modern temple was rebuilt by Maratha ruler Peshwa Nanasaheb (Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao)
BRIEF HISTORY: Gautam Muni happened to kill a cow accidentally for which he did severe penances to pay off the same. Maa Ganges from the Jata of Shiva ji appeared as Kusavarta Kumud (A source pond) and started flowing as River Godavari. Simultaneously Jyotirling appeared to deliver him from the sin & accept his penances. Later on Maratha warrior Peshwa Nansaheb rebuilt the modern temple.
REMARKS: Only Jyotirling with representation of Trimutri (Brahma-Vishnu-Ishwar) whilst others are exclusively consecrated to Mahadev ji.
