NAME: Kedarnath/Kedareshwar (Lord of Kedar Khand; the historical name of the region)
LOCATION: Near River Mandakini in Kedarnath, Uttarkhand.
ORIGINALLY BUILT BY: Pandavs did Ughra Tapasya (Extreme penances) on the banks of Mandakini to pay off the sins of Kula-hatya (Massacre of one's own kiths & kins). Prabhu Mahadev himself appear to grant them forgiveness as Jyotirling. Later on revived by Gurudev Adi Shankaracharya.
BRIEF HISTORY: Legend says during their penances, Mahadev ji appeared before the Pandavs in disguise of a buffalo. When Pandavs tried to catch him, he split in to two, front reaching Sipadol, Nepal became Doleshwar Mahadev where as the hind became Kedarnath. Place was linked to Nara-Narayan too.
