The exquisitely carved Shri Ganesh Moorti at Halebidu.
The Hoysala ornamentation and exuberance is seen in each square inch. But what makes this sculpture special is the artist's imagination.
Shri Ganesh is 'tundil-tanu', with a big belly. He is sitting on his Vahana, the mouse. Naturally, the mouse is struggling to manage the weight. See the claws of its hind leg digging into the surface below.
So heavy is Shri Ganesh that even the stone slab below is bent a little with the weight, where the mouse has dug its claws!
And despite the heaviness of the sculpture, see how graceful and fluid it looks!
This is a true masterpiece!
